Description
MEXICO BELLA VISTA
Mexico Bella Vista Coffee is a product of the remarkable resilience and determination of coffee farmers in the Bellavista region of Chiapas, Mexico. In 2012, the devastating leaf rust outbreak wreaked havoc on the coffee farms, impacting both coffee production and the livelihoods of numerous smallholder farmers. In response, a collaborative effort between importers and farmers was initiated to revitalize the industry and establish sustainable production practices, aiming to elevate coffee as a primary economic force in the coffee-growing regions.
Through innovative programs, smallholders in Bellavista, Chiapas, were granted vital resources such as healthy seedlings, high-quality fertilizers, financial support, and purchase guarantees. Additionally, farmers received crucial technical and agricultural assistance. These efforts have culminated in Bellavista’s growers becoming integral parts of a vast network comprising thousands of producers. Their collective efforts have rejuvenated over 5,000 hectares of farmland across Mexico.
Situated at an elevation ranging from 1,600 to 1,850 meters above sea level, Bellavista in the municipality of Frontera benefits from a microclimate akin to that of Guatemala’s Huehuetenango department. This microclimate is instrumental in crafting exceptional cup profiles for the coffee. Employing traditional processing methods such as hand de-pulping, wooden-tank fermentation, and patio sun-drying, the farmers infuse the beans with distinct flavors and characteristics.
